There are two large bedrooms with long walls of custom-built vented cedar closets and two full en-suite baths. All the walls, inside and out, are covered with Duroplex, which is a tinted acrylic stucco, so they never need to be painted. Doors, windows and wood trim were custom made by Portuguese craftsmen using imported Iroko wood (sustainably harvested African teak). Decking surrounding the house is made from recycled plastic lumber for extra low maintenance. Durable Italian tile is used throughout the house and in the swimming pool as well.
A new set of batteries support the 1800 watt/48VDC solar array with an [email protected] rate battery bank (installed 2015). There is a large quiet generator (SDMO 13.6 kVA) for backup power and a wind generator. The home boasts all the modern amenities, including high speed wireless internet. All furnishings are included in the price.
This home is part of a 750 acre (305 hectare) planned and gated community with access via phone-activated electric gates. There are 22 similarly large lots and six smaller lots providing each homeowner complete privacy. The development was created by a group of American, Dutch, British and Antillean nature lovers and includes several common nature spots for picnicking. The land is protected in perpetuity through deed restrictions so that only about 1/3 of each lot will ever be developed, keeping the area green and protecting privacy.
