Perched on a hill

. . . with unobstructed 270-degree ocean views, this one of a kind home offers low maintenance out-door living all year long. Nature is the garden and the inspiration for this solar and wind powered off-the-grid home. It sits on 27.5 acres (11+ hectare) of untouched private property for complete privacy. . . but is only 15 minutes from town.

The home features covered outdoor living and dining areas, protected from the elements by a retractable glass wall.  A large patio pool (3m x 9m) creates a soothing, cooling water feature in the main living area. There are several other dining areas around the home to vary the views and capitalize on the prevailing trade winds.

The immense kitchen, which opens onto the patio, features a six-burner chef's stove, two separate deep sinks, high efficiency refrigerator-freezer, Bosch dishwasher and microwave oven. There is also a large pantry room, with another high efficiency two-door refrigerator and a chest-style deep freeze in addition to professional kitchen shelving.

There are two large bedrooms with long walls of custom-built vented cedar closets and two full en-suite baths.  One bedroom and bath are located on the other side of the swimming pool from the main house for guest privacy or live-in help.  The extra large office-TV room could become one or two more bedrooms.  A workshop, laundry room and two more storage rooms are located in the covered garage area which is separate from the house.  There is also a utility storage room next to the guest bedroom which could become living space for that bedroom.

On the west side of the house is an open star-gazing or sun bathing deck and at the back of the house is a winding walkway that leads through nature to a magnificent, untouched natural rock formation with panoramic ocean views. This special spot is ideal for early morning yoga, evening sun downers or just quiet contemplation.

The house was designed by a well-known architect and features special aerodynamics to ensure that the temperature inside is always cool and breezy.  Designed to function into the sunset years, the house is built on one level with ramps that make it wheelchair friendly. The home has been featured in several magazine articles including Caribbean Travel & Life, Retirement Living and Home Power.

All the walls, inside and out, are covered with Duroplex, which is a tinted acrylic stucco, so they never need to be painted.  Doors, windows and wood trim were custom made by Portuguese craftsmen using imported Iroko wood (sustainably harvested African teak).  Decking surrounding the house is made from recycled plastic lumber for extra low maintenance. Durable Italian tile is used throughout the house and in the swimming pool as well.

A new set of batteries support the 1800 watt/48VDC solar array with an [email protected] rate battery bank (installed 2015). There is a large quiet generator (SDMO 13.6 kVA) for backup power and a wind generator.  The home boasts all the modern amenities, including high speed wireless internet.  All furnishings are included in the price.

This home is part of a 750 acre (305 hectare) planned and gated community with access via phone-activated electric gates. There are 22 similarly large lots and six smaller lots providing each homeowner complete privacy. The development was created by a group of American, Dutch, British and Antillean nature lovers and includes several common nature spots for picnicking. The land is protected in perpetuity through deed restrictions so that only about 1/3 of each lot will ever be developed, keeping the area green and protecting privacy. However, it is possible to build a second house on the 27+ acre lot. The aerial photos show the house and its infrastructure that allows for a relaxed, private, independent lifestyle in the midst of the natural environment.
